When old stain is peeling or flaking, washing alone isn't enough — we strip it back to sound wood so the new finish has a clean foundation. A brightening treatment then neutralizes the wood's pH and restores its natural tone, and light sanding opens the grain so stain penetrates evenly. Only then is a deck truly ready to finish.
